Chana Dal Fry Recipe



Chana dal in English is one of the most popular North Indian lentil recipes. It is a versatile and delicious combination of various vegetables like lentils, beans, chickpeas and other grains. The word “dal” means “lentil” in English and in India, it is referred to a type of white meat. Chana dal is considered a special treat in some parts of the world.

Chana Dal is a delicious and nutritious dish that can be served at any time of day. To cook chana dal in English, you need to start with three ingredients and these are coarsely chop onions, butter and some spices. First, in a large frying pan, add oil and fry the onions until they are translucent. Then, add some butter and fry the onions until they are translucent again. Add salt to the onions and fry them until they are almost soft.

Then, add salt to the ghee or fat and bring to boil. Reduce the heat and cover for about ten minutes so that the herbs can absorb the flavor. When the cooking is over, add coriander leaves and mix them with the chana dal.

After removing the lid, add chopped tomatoes, cumin powder, coriander seeds and green chilies, along with some salt. Cover and cook for about five minutes. When the first taste of spices comes out, add more turmeric powder and red chili powder so that you don’t have less spice but more flavor for your curries.

Then add the drained and washed chickpeas to the mix and slowly stir the mixture until the ingredients combine thoroughly. Cover for about thirty minutes so that the lentil chunks cook and then add one cup of water or stock to the mixture. Bring to a boil and then turn off the fire. After that, remove the lid and continue cooking for about five minutes so that the lentils cook completely. Once that, remove the chicken from the lentils and shred them using a shredder.
