Digital Marketing: Quick Guide

What is Digital Marketing?

Digital marketing is a term used to describe the activity of internet marketing. It includes everything from blogging, to video blogging, to social media, and more. There are many different disciplines that fall under the umbrella of digital marketing. Some of these include: SEO, PPC (pay per click), email marketing (marketing through email), web design/development (you guessed it – designing and developing websites for clients), web analytics (analyzing website traffic) and so on. Digital marketers use various tools in order to get their job done effectively. Some of these tools include: Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics and so on.

Why Does Digital Marketing Matter?

The market is getting pretty competitive out there! There are millions upon millions of people online everyday looking for products or services like yours! If you’re not online then they won’t ever know about you or your business! You’ve got to be where your potential customers are – which means being online on the platforms they frequent most often; like Facebook & Twitter for example. Otherwise how will people ever find you? That’s why digital marketing matters… because if you don’t work on growing your business through it. On-page SEO optimization is a part of digital marketing that I love. I’m not crazy about it for the reason that it’s boring, but because I truly love to see how search engine optimization helps generate traffic and sales. On-page SEO is done in two ways: off-site SEO and on-site SEO. Off-site SEO is essentially “off” your website. For example, link building (getting backlinks) is an off site method of getting more traffic to your website for free! On-page SEO focuses on optimizing your website so that it ranks higher in search engines like Google – thus resulting in more organic traffic to your page(s).

What are the Top Problems with Digital Marketing?

Advertisers are always looking for new ways to connect with their customers. Social media has made this much easier than ever before! However, it’s also made the job of digital marketers much harder as well!

Most people are annoyed by ads because they don’t understand why advertisers keep showing them ads for products . Or services that they have no interest or intention of purchasing anytime soon. It’s a waste of their time and a waste of the advertisers money.

The point is, there are so many ads out there that people have become desensitized to them… which makes it even more difficult for advertisers to get their message through. Did you know that the average person sees 1,600+ advertisements per day? That’s insane! It means that you can’t just throw up ads anywhere and expect people to stick around or be interested in what you’re selling.

I love how this article from AdWeek puts it: “In fact, one could very well argue that Facebook is not really a social media platform at all—it’s an advertising platform.” This isn’t necessarily a bad thing! In fact it’s great because any way we can get our business’ name out there without paying for every single advertisement makes us happy! However, if we aren’t careful with how we advertise on social media then we will surely run into problems such as annoying our followers and losing their interest in our content even quicker than normal (which won’t do us any good).

How Do You Solve Digital Marketing Problems?

So where do we begin? First off – keep your audience in mind when planning your digital marketing strategy and creating your content/ads/etc… Remember: less is more when working with digital marketing.
